Brief Description of what the organisation does:
Schrader Electronics Ltd (SEL) is the market leader in the production of remote tyre pressure sensor monitoring devices (TPMS). TPMS is classed as a safety device and has been a legal requirement in all vehicles in the US from the year 2000 and will be a legal requirement for all vehicles in the European market from 2013. SEL have three manufacturing facilities – Springfield Tennessee, Antrim and Carrickfergus and employ approximately 1050 employees worldwide.
Brief Description of your role within the organisation:
My role within SEL is as one of the Training Co-ordinators within the Training and Development Department. The main aspect of this role is to co-ordinate training activities company wide, including external activities and internal activities. To do this role, I am required to work with my internal customers on the identification, organisation and communication of training activities.
Why did you choose to embark on the Foundation Coaching & Mentoring programme?
We decided at the beginning of 2011 that we would like to develop our Apprenticeship programme to include Coaching. By attending the Foundation Award in Coaching and Mentoring course, I would gain the skills and knowledge to set up a coaching framework with our year one apprentices and help them through the college to work transition.
How did the Coaching and Mentoring Programme help you in your role the workplace?
I believe that this course has developed my skills in Coaching and Mentoring and also gave me formal training and knowledge on the topic which I can lean on. I now feel comfortable to deliver this service to the Apprentices and in turn help them.
How has your organisation benefited from you completing the Coaching & Mentoring Programme?
Providing coaching for our new Apprentices helps them settle into the company quickly and allows us to provide tailored support as and when required. This new coaching initiative has strengthened our programme which we hope will also help with our apprentice recruitment. Whilst currently coaching is part of our Apprentice Programme, going forward we would like to offer coaching to other groups of people within Schrader Electronics.
How would you describe your experience working with DMS?
The customer service at DMS is brilliant, I knew exactly what was happening and when. Lynn is an excellent trainer and made herself available at all times.
I would definitely encourage anyone to complete a programme with DMS, with the support from the staff and Lynn it makes the entire process very smooth and easy!
